After Bell Market Wrap-up: 19th July 2021

It wasn’t quite a good start for the markets this week. The low trading global markets surely did have an impact on the Indian stock markets. The markets opened with Sensex at 52,606.99 points, down by around 500 points and Nifty down by around 169 points, at 15,754.40. In the initial hours, only 8 companies out of 30 in the Sensex traded in the green.

A snippet of the markets today

  • Shares of Clean Science and Technology were listed today at Rs.1,755, i.e. a premium of 95%.

  • GR Infra project shares were also listed today at Rs.1,715.85; a premium of 105% over the IPO price.

  • Tatva Chintan Pharma Chem IPO was oversubscribed by around 15.04 times on day 2.

  • HDFC Life Insurance Company, Indian Bank, HCL Technologies, Nippon Life India Asset Management and a few other companies released their quarterly results today.

  • Punjab National Bank, SAIL, Sun TV Network, Vodafone Idea and two other stocks were under the F&O ban for the day.

Top gainers and losers of the day

Share prices of HDFC dropped by around 2.25% as the quarterly results did not meet the investors’ expectations. The announcement of Reliance acquiring a stake in Just Dial impacted the latter negatively. Stock prices of the latter did fall by more than 5%.

As a result of the Supreme Court’s hearing on the AGR case, stocks of telecom sector companies like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea were impacted negatively. As Motilal Oswal initiated coverage with the buy call, shares of Burger King shot up by more than 5%. Share prices of Rossari Biotech rose by 7.4% after the company announced that it’d acquire Tristar Intermediaries. As Mukul Agarwal increased his stake in the company, the share prices of Dishman carbogen rose by more than 7%.

Wrapping up

The markets closed in the red zone for the day. Both the primary indices were down by around 1%. The second half of the day was quite rough. However, credit rating agencies like CRISIL did perform well. More than 500 stocks touched their peak. Besides, the crypto market has been low. Bitcoin, Ether and Dogecoin dropped by around 1.34%, 5% and 7% respectively in the last 24 hours.
