The Indian Evidence Act decides what evidence can be used in Indian courts for both civil and criminal cases. But now the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA) is a game-changer for India's criminal laws, replacing the old Indian Evidence Act of 1872 (IEA) with modern and new provisions. It officially came into effect on 1st July 2024 after getting the nod from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
