The things common between Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Dr Shyam Prasad Mukherjee is that they contributed significantly towards the Indian Freedom Struggle. They had a huge impact on Indian citizens, but their deaths remain a mystery as it never revealed how they died or the circumstances they died in. In this article, we are going to discuss the unsolved mystery of the deaths of these Indian Leaders. So, let’s get started!

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose

“Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom”

Birth Date – 23rd January 1897

Death Date – 18th August 1945

Cause of Death – A Plane Crash

The Mystery – It is alleged that there was government vigilance on Bose’s family for many years after his death news, and no DNA tests were examined. Surprisingly, the world media reached the hospital to cover his death news, but no pictures were found on the records. None of them was allowed to cover this news. One of the interesting facts is that his death certificate was never found. In 1949, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru appointed a historian Pratul Chandra Gupta to write a book on the contribution of the Indian Army to the Indian Freedom struggle. A manuscript of 490 pages with all the military operations was written but never published. It was also claimed that he was alive and residing in Russia. Various inquiries were made, such as Figgess Report 1946, Shah Nawaz Committee 1956, and Khosla Commission 1970, but every time it was concluded that Netaji died in a plane crash in Taiwan. In 1999, the Mukherjee commission started this discussion again that it was not possible for Netaji to die in that plane crash in Taiwan because, in that year, no such incident was reported. Some people allege that Netaji returned to Bharat. The mystery is still unsolved.

Motive: The Britishers used a trick to rule Indians and Netaji identified that trick. The Britishers included Indians in their army, and our Soldiers became their strength. Kolkata’s Governor General said that if every Indian with a fist full of sand threw it on Britishers, they would have been buried alive. Netaji identified this trick, and even after the mysterious disappearance, his ideas were still alive in the Indian army. He already rendered plans for India’s economy, industries, and future visions.

Lal Bahadur Shastri

“Jai Jawan Jai Kisaan”

Birth Date – 2nd October 1904

Death Date- 11th January 1966

Cause of Death- Heart Attack

The Mystery- Our second Prime minister introduced the white and green revolutions. In 1965 when Pakistan attacked India, Shastri Ji retorted with strong beliefs. The UN intervened and asked both countries for a ceasefire. Shastri Ji was invited to Tashkent along with Ayub Khan (from Pakistan) to sign an accord for being in the same position before 5th August 1965. After this accord was signed (i.e., on 10th January 1966), Shastri Ji was found dead the next day. It was alleged that even after the proposal by Russian Intelligence, no post-mortem procedure was conducted. Also, some blue and black marks were witnessed when Shastri Ji’s body was brought to India as if it was poisoned. It was also claimed that the hat he was wearing was bloody, which is preserved till date. The next year a fake letter was published alleging that Shastri Ji wrote it demanding peace with Pakistan, but later it was discovered that the letter didn’t hold any validity. The cook who prepared Shastri Ji’s meal was never in question by the Indians, but he was arrested by Russian Intelligence and soon got released as no strong evidence was produced. No witnesses were ever questioned. In 2009, Anuj Dhar requested the official death records of Shastri Ji by filing RTI, but the government answered that the information could not be shared to maintain international relations.

Motive- The motive behind Shastri Ji’s death was maybe hidden in the Tashkent accord, which was signed between India and Pakistan. The army, which proceeded towards Lahore, was asked to return. One thing which the Tashkent accord didn’t mention was Pakistan’s involvement in Kashmir. It is claimed that Shastri Ji was forced to sign the accord, and he would have revealed the reason after returning to India. He didn’t agree with all the terms of the accord.

Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee

“Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishan”

Birth Date – 6th July 1901

Death Date – 23rd June 1953

Cause of Death – Heart attack

The Mystery – Dr Mukherjee, along with his followers, moved to Kashmir to initiate a hunger strike against the law which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, where Indian citizens were not allowed to settle. It was alleged that he was kept in an old and damaged cottage instead of jail. Despite the fact that he was suffering from Dry Pleurisy and other Coronary Troubles, he was treated as a petty criminal, which raised various questions. He was also given some drugs which were harmful to his death. He also asked the Jail superintendent to inform his relatives about his health, but they received no information. Atal Bihar Vajpayee, who was also present with Dr Mukherjee, claimed that his death was conspired by the Central Government, J&K Government and PM Jawaharlal Nehru. No official investigation was conducted, so his death became a mystery.

Motive – He always favoured uniting J&K with the rest of the Indian states. However, he was criticised by many authorities for his conduct. After partition, J&K was given a special status, which resulted in two different entities, which was the sole reason for initiating the movement.

Conclusion

These mysteries question the country's investigation procedure because the people we talked about are not ordinary. They influenced the whole country to proceed towards India’s freedom. India must acquire an effective investigation procedure and take strict action to develop a strong nation.
