  1. Construction of the World’s Largest Ramayan Temple

A monumental project started in the East Champaran district of Bihar as the construction work of the ‘world’s largest Ramayan temple’ began on June 20th. This temple will stand taller than the famous Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia & is expected to become a marvel of architectural grandeur. This temple symbolises devotion & craftsmanship, and it will be constructed on a vast land spanning 3.76 lakh sq. ft. at a distance of 120 km from Patna.

The theme for World Environment Day on 5th June 2023 focused on solutions to curbing plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. The use of plastics at the global level is a huge concern as more than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, half of which are single-use plastic. Of that, less than 10 per cent is recycled. What’s more alarming is that the microplastics find their way into the food we eat, the water we drink & the air we breathe.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the ‘Balidan Stambh’ construction in Srinagar, and stringent security arrangements were made. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined him near the commercial centre of Srinagar. This memorial is a part of the Srinagar Smart City project, which is being constructed to pay tribute to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our country.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)’s Global Liveability Index 2023 report, Vienna, Austria, has retained the top spot as the most livable city worldwide. The report accredits Vienna’s success to its exceptional stability, rich culture, entertainment, reliable infrastructure, exemplary education, and health services. The city has consistently held this position in recent years, and it was only COVID- 19 which has interrupted it in the past.

The International Day of Women in Diplomacy (IDWID) is observed annually on June 24th to honour & acknowledge the works of all the remarkable women in the fields of diplomacy and decision-making worldwide. Armenian ambassador Diana Abgar is credited as the first female diplomat of the 20th century. The theme for IDWID 2023, organised by the Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT), was “Breaking Barriers, Shaping the Future: Women in Diplomacy for Sustainable Development.”

The first edition of the India, France, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Maritime Partnership Exercise commenced on 7th June 2023 in the Gulf of Oman, promoting the participation of INS Tarkash, French Ship Surcouf, French Rafale aircraft and UAE Navy Maritime Patrol Aircraft. The exercise involved a broad spectrum of naval operations like Surface Warfare, involving tactical firing & Drills for Missile engagements on surface targets, Helicopter Cross Deck Landing Operations, Advanced Air Defence Exercises and Boarding operations.

  1. PM Narendra Modi receives Egypt’s highest honour, ‘Order of the Nile’

PM Modi on his official visit to Egypt was bestowed with the highest state honour of Egypt, known as the ‘Order of the Nile’ presented by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. This honour marked the 13th international award received by Prime Minister Modi.  Interestingly, he also became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Egypt since 1997.
