Attention Readers!📢 The Faculty of Law, Kurukshetra University, is organising the 1st National Moot Court Competition 2024 from 29 February to 2 March 2024.

About Kurukshetra University

Established in 1956 by the esteemed Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, Kurukshetra University emerged as a unitary residential institution on the profound grounds of Kurukshetra, the historic battleground of the 'Mahabharata,' resonating with the philosophical echoes of the Bhagwad Gita. 

Initially beginning with the Department of Sanskrit, the university has evolved into a prestigious multi-faculty institution renowned for advanced studies and research in the region. Spanning 400 acres near Brahm Sarovar, the institution symbolises intellectual growth and academic excellence, deeply rooted in India's cultural and historical heritage.

About Faculty of Law

Faculty of Law offers LL.B. (3 Years), B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) 5-Year Integrated Course, LL.M. (2 Years) and Ph.D. Programmes. Since its inception, renowned, eminent, outstanding scholars have headed the Department and Institute of Law. Faculty of Law has alumni(s) as Judges of the Hon'ble Supreme Court & High Courts, Judicial Magistrates, Legal Officers, Ministers, Speaker of Vidhan Sabha, Members of Legislative Assembly, Vice Chancellors of Universities, Professors in various Universities, Bureaucrats, ADAs and many are working in the Corporate Sector in Law Firms and Multi-National Companies.

Eligibility

  • The competition is eligible for students enrolled in either a 5-year integrated LL.B. program or a 3-year LL.B. program from a recognized University or Institution approved by the Bar Council of India. 

  • A team must consist of either three members (two 'Mooters' and one 'Researcher') or two members (two 'Mooters,' with one designated as a researcher). 

  • Each College/Law School/Institution is limited to one participating team; no additional members or team coaches are permitted. 

  • Registration is capped at 36 teams, and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important dates

  • 23rd November 2023: Release of brochure and moot Proposition

  • 25th January 2024: Last date of registration & fee payment

  • 27th January 2024: Last date to seek clarifications

  • 31st January 2024: Release of Clarification

  • 10th February 2024: Last date to submit a soft copy of memorials

  • 15tth February 2024: Last date to submit a hard copy of memorials

  • 29th February 2024: Inaugural ceremony, draw of lots & exchange of memorials

  • 29th February 2024: Researcher's test

  • 1st March 2024: Two Preliminary Rounds and Quater Finals

  • 2nd March 2024: Semi-Final Round

  • 2nd March 2024: Final Round

  • 2nd March 2024: Chief Guest Address, Cultural event & Prize distribution ceremony.

Tentative Schedule

DAY 1: 29th Feb 2024

  • Team Reporting and Registration: Commencing from 2:00 PM

  • Inaugural Ceremony: Scheduled from 2:30 to 3:30 PM

  • Researcher Test: Conducted from 4:00 to 5:00 PM

  • Draw of Lots and Memorial Exchange: Starting at 5:15 PM

DAY 2: 1st Mar 2024

  • Preliminary Round – I: From 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM

  • Preliminary Round - II: Running from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM

  • Lunch Break: Spanning from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

  • Result Declaration, Draw of Lots, and Memorial Exchange: Slated for 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM

  • Quarter Finals: Set to take place from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM

  • Result Declaration, Draw of Lots, and Memorial Exchange: Scheduled for 4:30 PM onwards

DAY 3: 2nd Mar 2024

  • Semi-Final Rounds: Unfolding between 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM

  • Result Declaration, Draw of Lots, and Memorial Exchange: Scheduled from 11:45 AM to 12:00 PM

  • Lunch Break: Allotted from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

  • Final Round: Set to transpire from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM

  • Cultural Program and Chief Guest's Address, Followed by Prize Distribution Ceremony: Kicking off at 3:40 PM Onwards

Registration Fees

Each team shall submit a registration fee of INR 3000/-. Also, Registration Fee, once submitted, will not be refunded in any case.

Registration kits and meals will be provided by the organizing university, including six meals starting from dinner on the First day to Lunch on the concluding day.

Submission of Memorials

Participants must submit electronic copies of memorials for both the Petitioner's and Respondent's sides in Word (.docx/.doc) and PDF formats.

Memorials should be emailed to nmcc2024kuk@gmail.com with the subject "Memorials for Team Code," naming files as per the team code and side represented (e.g., TC08(P) or TC08(R)).

  • Electronic copies must match the content of hard copies sent to the Organizers.

  • The deadline for sending soft copies is February 10, 2024, by 23:59 hours IST.

  • Hard copies of memorials for all participants must be submitted by February 15, 2024, by 23:59 hours IST.

  • Teams must send eight hard copies (four Petitioners & four Respondents) of their Memorials for each side to the Dean, Faculty of Law, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana, India 136119.

Prizes for Moot Court Competition

  • Winning Team Award: The winning team will get a trophy and certificate of appreciation with a cash prize of Rs. 21,000/-

  • Runners-Up Award: The runners-up will get a trophy and certificate of appreciation with a cash prize of Rs. 11,000/-

  • Best Mooter: Best Student mooter will get a trophy and certificate of appreciation with a cash prize of Rs. 4000/-

  • Best Memorial: Best Memorial will get a medal and certificate of appreciation with a cash prize of Rs. 4000/-

  • Best Researcher: Best Researcher will get a trophy and certificate of appreciation with a cash prize of Rs. 4000/-
