CLAT is the focal point of all the exams related to law admissions for the students who have just passed their 12th standard. At this time the major concern is for the preparation of the exams. You may have started your preparations for CLAT when you are in 11th standard or 12th standard so that you are able to cover all the syllabus.

Well indeed it is important to cover the entire syllabus but managing that properly is also important. How do you manage this? You do this by properly planning about the subjects and different sections that you have to attempt. 1. Current Affairs and Static General Knowledge

Focus majorly on the current affairs of the last 6 months. Make Notes regularly.

2. English

Under the new pattern, CLAT has now been all about Reading and comprehension and is applicable for the English section as well, which will be based on your ability of reading and interpretation of the given passage. Passages under this section come with the central idea that you will have to identify. Also, there would be word meanings that will also be part of the English section.

Regular reading habits will polish your ability to read as well as interpretation. Try to read from sources like the newspapers such as The Hindu, The Indian Express, The Hindustan Times, etc. with some good magazines. You have to understand this, the more you read the better you get at comprehension and understanding. Write down the word that you don’t know the meaning of, in a diary or in your notes and refer to the meaning of the word. Some good books can be “Word Power Made Easy” by Norman Lewis & Wren & Martin.

Practice solving mock tests under a reasonable time so that this makes you faster at the time of the actual exam. While practising vocabulary do not mug up things because you will have to give out the meaning in the context of the passage. Converting a sentence to active voice or passive voice will also be part of the paper so pay attention to it while you are preparing for it.

  • Idioms and Phrases.

  • Word Meanings.

  • Nouns and Pronounce.

  • One Word Substitution.

Primarily followed by other topics.

3. Legal Reasoning

Legal reasoning will also now test your reading and comprehension, understanding, and reasoning. So, we have some of the topics that may be relevant for you which you can mark as important when you start studying for the legal reasoning. Concentrate on the legal principle that are part of different laws because CLAT will test your ability to understand the legal principles.

  • Torts and Contract Law.

  • Constitutional Law.

  • Criminal Law.

  • Legal maxims.

  • Legal Awareness.

4. Logical Reasoning

Logical reasoning has now been turned again for your reading and this section will test your reasoning ability and your ability to draw conclusions. This is basically a test of how do you think rationally and how clear are you on your ideas.

  • Logical Sequences.

  • Puzzles.

  • Family/Blood Relation.

  • Coding/Decoding.

  • Seating Arrangement.

  • Number Test.

  • Ranking and Order.

  • Verbal Reasoning

  • Pairing.

  • Questions on Inference.

  • Statement Conclusion/Assumption.

  • Syllogisms.

5. Quantitative Techniques

This section is nothing but mathematics but with a twist. Under the new pattern, there will be data provided to you and you will be asked to make calculations based on the data that has been provided to you. The mathematics involved in this section will be based on the mathematics up till class 10th level.

Focal Points:

  • Permutation and Combinations.

  • Probability.

  • Percentages.

  • Fractions, decimals.

  • Time and work.

  • Average.

  • Ration proportion.

  • Mensuration.
