2.1 Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog

• Edition: 11th
• Location: Rashtrapati Bhavan (New Delhi)
• Chairperson: Narendra Modi (Prime Minister of India)
• Theme: Inclusive Human Development for Viksit Bharat @2047
• The meeting deliberated on measures to promote entrepreneurship, enhance skilling, and create sustainable employment opportunities across the country.

2.2 Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog

• The Supreme Court has ruled that the right to walk on a demarcated footpath is a fundamental right.
• A bench of justices PS Narasimha and AS Chandurkar held that a citizen’s fundamental right to walk on a demarcated footpath is primary and shall have priority over movement by motorised vehicles.
• In a significant verdict, the apex court said it forms part of the right to movement guaranteed under Article 19 (1) (d) and other fundamental rights, including Article 21- Right to life and liberty.

2.3 Approval for India's first Offshore Airport

• Location: Off the coast of Palghar district (Maharashtra)
• The airport will be located approximately 4.75 kilometres from the Uttan–Virar Sea Link.

3. International News June 2026

3.1 Launch of Operation Amistad 

• It's a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief mission launched by India.
• It has been launched in response to devastating earthquakes in Venezuela that caused extensive loss of life, injuries and widespread destruction.
• According to the Ministry of External Affairs, two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft departed for Venezuela on the first day, carrying humanitarian relief supplies and a 41-member rescue team to assist ongoing relief and rescue efforts.

3.2 Interim Pact between the US and Iran

•  It's a landmark 14-point peace agreement known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
• The MoU, signed on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France and mediated by Pakistan, halts the intense direct and proxy military hostilities of Operation Epic Fury, which erupted in February 2026.
• It initiates a 60-day negotiation process between the US and Iran on nuclear proliferation, regional security, and sanctions relief.
• The agreement only requires Iran to downblend its highly enriched uranium (HEU) under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supervision.
• The US is committed to lifting its naval blockade, easing restrictions on Iranian oil exports, and opening talks on broader sanctions relief. 

3.3 52^nd G7 Summit

• Host: France
• Theme: Working Together to Address Major International Challenges
• During the three-day summit, the leaders discussed reducing global imbalances, addressing major geopolitical crises, issues related to children, and strengthening the fight against organised crime and illicit flows.
• The G7 Summit is an international forum held annually for the leaders of the G7 member States of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US.

4.1 Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF)

• Edition: 19th
• Location: Mumbai
• It's one of Asia's most respected film festivals dedicated to non-feature cinema.
• It is organised by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
• The festival opened with the grand inaugural ceremony at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai.

 4.2 The GO-EAST Policy

• Launched by the Odisha Government.
• GO-EAST means Government of Odisha Eastern Investment Accelerator and Special Task Force.
• It's a dedicated investment facilitation platform designed to attract industries from eastern and northeastern India and to accelerate project approvals and successful implementation.
• Names of some of the targeted backward districts under this policy :  Balangir , Kalahandi , Nuapada , Kandhamal , Boudh , Gajapati, etc.

5. Defence News June 2026

5.1 Commissioning of ICGS Akshay 

• It's a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV).
• Commissioned into the Bharatiya Tatrakshak Fleet in Goa.
• Designed and constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited.
• It's designed for coastal surveillance, maritime law enforcement, search and rescue and environmental protection.

5.2 Commissioning of three indigenously built Indian Navy platforms

• Names of the commissioned vessels: INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray
• It's designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers.
• INS Dunagiri is a Project 17A stealth frigate and is armed with BrahMos missiles and medium-range air defence systems.
• INS Sanshodhak is a survey vessel designed for coastal and deep-water hydrographic operations.
• INS Agray is an anti-submarine warfare craft equipped with torpedoes, rocket launchers and sonar systems for coastal defence.

5.3 Induction of the First indigenous Air Cushion Vehicle

Name : H-561

Inducted into the Indian Coast Guard.

It's the first of the six indigenous Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs), being constructed by Chowgule and Company Private Limited for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

Aim: To enhance Coast Guard’s operational effectiveness across a broad spectrum of maritime duties and reinforce its ability to respond to emerging challenges.

7.1 Slovakia confers its highest State honour upon PM Modi

Name: The Order of the White Double Cross, First Class

Accepting the award, he noted that the honour was a tribute to the 1.4 billion people of India, and to the enduring bonds of friendship between India and Slovakia.

7.2 Padma Awards 2026

• President Droupadi Murmu conferred 65 Padma Awards at the second Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
• These awards included two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan and 56 Padma Shri.
• Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, actor Mammootty, playback singer Alka Yagnik and cricketer Rohit Sharma are among 65 prominent personalities who received the coveted Padma Awards from the President.

7.3 First Indian to win the Russia Grand Sand Master Cup 2026

• Name: Sudarsan Pattnaik
• He received this award at the II International Festival of Sand Sculpture in Russia.
• Sudarshan's sculpture focused on global warming and environmental conservation.
