2.1 Passes Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026 

• Parliament has passed the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, with the Rajya Sabha approving it.
• The bill seeks to redefine the category of transgender, removes the provision of self-perceived gender identity and excludes several socio-cultural identities as well as transmasculine individuals from its ambit.
• In the landmark judgement NALSA vs Union of India (2014) case, the Supreme Court recognised gender identity as a fundamental right. And this allows individuals to self-identify their gender.

2.2 Commencement of the Income Tax Rules 2026

• Aim: To enhance compliance through stricter disclosures while simplifying tax procedures by reducing the number of rules. 
• It replaces older procedural systems and incorporates updated definitions, compliance structures, and new reporting mechanisms.
• Stock exchanges will now be required to maintain audit trails for seven years, prevent deletion of transaction records, and submit monthly reports on modified transactions to improve transparency and data integrity.
• The new rules have also granted additional powers to India's tax authorities for cross-border taxation.
• Introduction of clear guidelines for complex cases such as debenture conversions, income disclosure schemes for assets, and cross-border restructuring. A zero-coupon bond framework has been introduced to enhance regulatory oversight.

2.3 India's second state to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC)

• Gujarat will become the second state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) after Uttarakhand.
• It's a step towards ensuring equal justice for all the people of the state and realising the concept of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
• The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is outlined in Article 44 of the Constitution, which forms part of the Directive Principles of State Policy and states that the government should strive to establish a uniform civil code for all citizens across India.

3.1 1st South Asian nation to ban social media for children

• Country name: Indonesia 🇮🇩
• It has begun implementing a new government regulation that bans children younger than 16 from access to digital platforms, which could expose them to pornography, cyberbullying, online scams and addiction.
• It follows the measures Australia took last year by becoming the first country in the world to ban social media for children.

3.2 Launch of World's First Freight-Only Bullet Train

• Launched by Japan 🇯🇵
• Developed by East Japan Railway Company.
• Has a top speed of 275 kmph.
• The freight Shinkansen currently operates between Morioka and Tokyo along the Tohoku Shinkansen line.

3.3 Updates on the Iran-Israel War

• The ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the US has rapidly escalated in West Asia. It has shaken global markets, pushing oil prices sharply higher and prompting several major economies to release supplies from their strategic reserves.
• Tehran says it still maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz and has threatened to target economic infrastructure linked to the United States and Israel.

4.1 Freedom of Religion Bill 2026

• The Maharashtra assembly passed the Freedom of Religion Bill 2026 by voice vote.

• As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of 1 lakh rupees.

4.2 Odisha's First Smart Village

• Village name: Kusunpur village (Kendrapada district of Odisha )
• It's the first smart village under a mission‑mode initiative launched by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
•  The initiative includes collaboration between CSIR research institutions, local administration, and implementation partners to introduce practical solutions.

4.3 Launch of Araku Kouni

• Launched by the Andhra Pradesh Government.
• It's the state's first tribal millet-based food menu.
• It aims to bring traditional millet-based diets of tribal communities into mainstream food culture.

5.1 Successful testing of the Indigenous Air Droppable Container
