Sberbank of Russia, a state-owned bank already present in India, has made history by becoming the first Russian bank to register as a foreign portfolio investor (FPI) with the Indian markets regulator (SEBI). This registration grants them a Category I FPI license, which involves stricter ownership disclosures but allows them to invest in overseas derivatives linked to Indian stocks and enjoy certain tax benefits. Category I FPI status is typically reserved for government-related foreign investors and regulated entities like banks, sovereign wealth funds, investment trusts, pension funds, and asset management companies.

To boost drone operations in India, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has introduced the Drone (Amendment) Rules 2023, removing the mandatory passport requirement for aspiring drone pilots. This change addresses the challenge faced by many, particularly in rural areas, and now allows the use of government-issued identity and address proofs instead. The move aims to simplify and promote drone activities, with the goal of making India a global drone hub by 2030.

A state-of-the-art Vertical Wind Tunnel (VWT) has been inaugurated by Army Chief General Manoj Pande, marking the Indian Army's first such facility at the Special Forces Training School (SFTS) in Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh. This VWT, a first in the Indian Army, simulates real-life free fall conditions, allowing military trainees to enhance their Combat Free Fall (CFF) skills. This technological advancement reflects the Indian Army's commitment to modernizing training methods and equipping armed forces personnel for various challenging scenarios.

8. Arogya Manthan 2023 Inaugurated

The National Health Authority (NHA) hosted the two-day Arogya Manthan 2023 event to commemorate the 5-year anniversary of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PM-JAY) and the 2-year milestone of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). AB-PM-JAY, initiated in 2018, offers health coverage of 5 lakhs per family annually for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization, while ABDM aims to establish a robust digital health ecosystem with an online platform. NHA, the successor to the National Health Agency, plays a pivotal role in implementing India's flagship public health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, and is also entrusted with designing strategies and implementing the National Digital Health Mission.

9. Digital India Act 2023

10. India’s Solar Roof Cycling Track Inaugurated

Hyderabad recently unveiled India's inaugural solar-roofed cycling track, named the Healthway Cycling Track, stretching 23 kilometers. This unique track features around 16,000 solar panels that generate 16 megawatts of power, equivalent to lighting 32,000 streetlights or illuminating 800 kilometers of city streets. Remarkably, it's the world's second solar roof-covered cycle track, recognized for its exceptional design.
