2.3 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill 2025

• The Government of India is all set to introduce the Constitution 131 Amendment Bill 2025, as it has proposed to include the Union Territory of Chandigarh under the ambit of Article 240 of the Constitution.

•  This will open the door to an independent administrator in the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The Punjab Governor is currently the Administrator of Chandigarh.

• Article 240 of the Constitution grants the President the power to make regulations for the peace, progress, and effective governance of certain Union territories, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

• The bill will be introduced in the upcoming Winter session of Parliament.

3.1First South Asian Nation to join the UN Water Convention

• Name: Bangladesh 🇧🇩

• About Uthe N Water Convention : 

  • Formally known as the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes

  • Adopted in the year 1992.

  • It's a legally binding international treaty focused on managing shared water bodies sustainably and equitably.

3.2 New Joinee to the UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Council

• Country name: Oman 🇴🇲

• Term. : 2025-29

• The election took place during the 43rd UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand.

• About The Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Program : 

  • Launched by UNESCO in 1971.

  • It works to improve the relationship between humans and their environment.

3.3  “Parasocial” has been named Cambridge Dictionary's Word of the Year 2025.

3.4 New member of the Colombo Security Conclave

• Country name: Seychelles 🇸🇨

4.1Assam Prohibition of Polygamy Bill, 2025

• Passed by Assam Legislative Assembly.
• It aims to criminalize polygamy & impose strict penalties for offenders.
• It includes provisions of up to 10 years' imprisonment for individuals who conceal a previous marriage and up to seven years' imprisonment for entering into a second marriage without dissolving the first. Repeat offenders will face double the punishment under the law.
• What is Polygamy?
  • Marrying or being married to another person while an existing legal marriage still exists and is not annulled or dissolved by divorce.

5.1 Commissioning of INS Ikshak

• It's the third vessel of the Survey Vessel (Large) class & the first to be based at Southern Naval Command.
