After Bell Market wrap-up: 16th July 2021

A bumper opening today! Indian markets started off at fresh record highs. In the earlier hours of the trading session though, Sensex slipped into the red zone as a result of activity in the IT stocks and finally snapped a 3-day winning run falling 19 pts at the closing bell. While Nifty ended above 15,900. The rupee opened at the previous close, Rs.74.54

A snippet of the markets today

  • Paytm filed the draft papers for an IPO worth Rs.16,600 crore. 

  • Northern Arc Capital also files the papers to release its IPO shortly.

  • HDFC Asset Management Company, Just Dial, L&T Finance Holdings and Maxima Systems and a few other companies released their results today.

  • Zomato IPO subscribed 38.14 times on day 3 of the IPO. 

  • FedEx Express has invested $100 million in the supply chain startup, Delhivery. 

  • Tatva Chintan Pharma Chem IPO opened today which witnessed a subscription of 1.79 times.

Here’re a few stocks that were in the news today

  • Xelpmoc design and tech board have approved raising funds on a preferential allotment basis by issuing equity shares worth Rs. 27 crores.

  • Grasim Industries and Century Textiles have incorporated a joint venture, Birla Advanced Knits, for undertaking knits manufacturing business in partnership with Century Textiles and Industries.

  • Aurobindo Pharma received approval from the US FDA for the Baclofen drug.

Top gainers and losers of the day

Wipro stock price hit the 52 week-high marks today as a result of a 36% jump in the Q1 results. As traders tended to book profits in the IT sector, stock prices of companies like Tata Elxsi and L&T Infotech fell by around 3%.

Stock prices of Angel Broking rose by 20% after reporting an increase of 156.6% in the consolidated net profit. 

Post reporting a net profit increase of 41.3%, stock prices of Cyient Ltd. shot up by around 12%.

Final words

The primary indices did close in red but it wasn’t necessarily a bad day for the market. Nifty did not manage to cross the 16,000 marks while during the day, small-cap stocks saw sharp gains. Around 500 stocks listed on BSE managed to hit their upper circuits. Stocks in the Pharma sector performed well. Broking and exchange companies also did well. Unlike yesterday, IT stocks suffered today. The crypto market also does not seem very excited. In the last 24 hours, bitcoin, ether and dogecoin have dropped by 3.24%, 4.65% and 6.95% respectively.
