After Bell Market Wrap-up: 22nd July 2021

It's Green, finally! After two consecutive sessions of red and a break, the markets managed to recover well today. Sensex opened at 52,494.56 and Nifty at 15,736.60. In the Sensex region, 24 out of the 30 companies traded in the green in the early trading hours. Rupee managed to gain 18 paise to touch Rs. 74.43 per dollar during the early hours.

A snippet of the markets today:

  • Zomato shares are to be listed tomorrow, 23rd July 2021.

  • The government approved an investment proposal of Vodafone Idea to raise Rs.1.5 K crore through the FDI route.

  • Bajaj Auto, Hindustan Unilever, CSB bank, Biocon and many other companies released their quarterly results today.

  • NMDC, NALCO, Indiabulls Housing Finance and 3 others were under the F&O ban for the day. 

Stocks in the news

  • Star Health Insurance files documents to release its IPO shortly. 

  • Anand Rathi Wealth submitted their papers with the SEBI for an IPO worth 1.2 crores of OFS.

  • Bharti Airtel raised its postpaid plan rates.

Quarterly results

Few companies that released their Q1FY22 results today are:

Hindustan Unilever

  • The company reported a net profit of Rs.2,061 crore, a 10% increase on a YoY basis.

  • The revenue from operations also saw an increase of 13% to Rs. 11,915 crore.

  • The company reported that the growth was led by the foods and refreshment and personal care segment. 

UltraTech Cement

  • Revenue from operations rose by 54% YoY basis to Rs.11,830 crore.

  • Consolidated profit was reported at Rs.1,700.03 crore, which is more than double what it earned in the corresponding quarter last year.

Top gainers and losers of the day

Many stocks reacted to the quarterly earnings released. Jubilant Foodworks hit the 52 week-high. Stock prices of Gland Pharma up by more than 9%. Bajaj Finance reported an increase of 4.2% in its consolidated net profit, after which stock prices rose by 4.16%. Polycab India stock prices dropped by almost 4% after it reported a 36% decline in net income. Post the government approval, Vodafone Idea stock prices rose by 2.22%. Indiabulls housing finance stock prices rose by around 3.5% as Rakesh Jhunjunwala increased his stake by Rs.1 crore in the company.

Stock prices of IDFC jumped by around 11.55% after RBI allowed the company to step down as the promoter of IDFC First Bank.

Wrapping up

It was a good day for the stock markets today. It managed to close in the green. The IT sector and Midcap stocks performed really well. Few sectors like realty witnessed some profit booking. Infosys, L&T, RIL and ICICI Bank were the major contributors to the index.

The crypto market seemed to improve after Elon musk announced that his company is likely to accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment. In the last 24 hours, Bitcoin rose by around 1.37%, while Ether and Dogecoin rose by around 4.55% and 2.09% respectively.
